NW Cup #3 – Ski Bowl

Mt. Hood / Government Camp, OR

05/27 – 05/29/16

A week and a half ago the Hi-5 Race Team made a big appearance to the third stop in the NW Cup series. A few members have moved up classes, riding new and different courses. All in all we had an amazing time. Ski Bowl’s dirt was in prime time conditions, no dust which made for scorching times down the hill.

Pro rider Kole Wetherell had one of the most insane whips I have ever seen during the Pro train (after seeding was postponed due to timing equipment malfunction) on Saturday afternoon. I swear it was past 90… Kole has been riding Moto all season and when the bike didn’t come back like a moto Kole went down. Thankfully he had solid knee braces on and good quality protection. With a little gimp in his step Kole still pushed through and qualified 15th with a 3:47.34 and maintained 15th out of 24 with bumping up his time to a 3:39.45.

Rye Livingston (Cat 1 Men 19-29).

Cat 1 19-29 rider Rye Livingston had a great weekend. On a new bike, new suspension and new gear he had dialed everything in by race day. With all that “newness” Murphy’s law had to kick in.  On his one practice run Sunday he slid out towards the end of the course and rag-dolled off the side of the hill. Sarah being the team LMT taped his wrist up and set him out for his race run. Although he was hurting he still managed to get 4th out of 20 with a time of 3:55.11

Cat 1 30-39 rider Jesse Murdock was flying all weekend. He had a fast and awesome race run, running with Rye and the other team members all weekend. He ended up in 5th place out of 9 with a 4:16.47. We were all in a wonder because this kind of time at ski bowl is unlikely for Jesse, especially if he had a killer no mistake run.. Timing was questioned on a few riders during the weekend.

Cat 2 15-18 rider Gordo Albisurez slid out during his race run and still managed to catch and pass the rider in front of him. Timing said he made it in with a 4:54.83, timing was again questioned on this one. Gordo kept a 15th place out of 26 riders.

Cat 2 19-29 rider Nick Lerma had a stacked class of 22 men, he landed in 13th with a time of 4:50.27.

Cat 2 Men’s Rider Brent Smith had a great time hanging out with both Hi-5 and WCR crew during the weekend. He landed in 7th place out of 19 with a time of 4:56.73 looking as smooth and stylish as always on course.

Pro Women’s rider Kerstin Holster was having a fast runs all weekend and enjoyed the venue very much. Saturday during her last run she nearly destroyed her bash-guard sending it into a rocky section. She recovered and fixed it before seeding and racing Sunday morning. She had a conservative seeding run, she caught the rider right in the gnarliest spot of the course and after about 10 seconds passed during the rock garden. Because of this she was also passed by Jaime Rees. Her seeding time was 4:45.91 (2nd) and her race run she recovered her time to 4:28.81 landing her in 3rd. This is her first Pro podium of the season!Cat 2 Mens rider Brent Smith ran a smooth weekend and landed himself in 7th place out of 19 competitors with a time of 4:56.73.

Cat Women’s rider Sarah Olsen was having a blast on the Ski Bowl course and put a scorcher time down landing her in 3rd with a time of 5:29.69.
